In a LinkedIn post, Ahmed Sitih, a seasoned strategic planning professional, shed light on the destructive role of ego in leadership and its impact on careers and workplaces. Drawing from his extensive experience across ten companies in the e-commerce and tech industries in the UAE and abroad, Sitih emphasized that “ego has derailed more careers and teams than poor strategy ever could.” Sitih’s post challenged conventional views of leadership, saying, “Many still believe that leadership is about asserting authority and showcasing power. But is it really?” Instead, he argued that ego, often lurking unnoticed, undermines effective leadership by creating disconnection among teams and yielding poor results. To counteract this, Sitih advocated for humility in leadership, citing UAE’s founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan as an exemplar. “Sheikh Zayed’s ability to lead with empathy and humbleness was instrumental in transforming the UAE into a global success story,” he noted. He concluded his post with a thought-provoking question: “What’s one leadership quality you’ve seen make the biggest impact in your workplace?” The post sparked widespread discussion, with professionals sharing their own insights into leadership qualities such as empathy, adaptability, and effective communication.
