Eid Al Adha in the UAE is expected to fall on May 27, according to astronomical calculations shared by an expert. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society and a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, said the date corresponds to the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijjah in the Islamic calendar. Speaking to Al Khaleej Arabic newspaper, Al Jarwan explained that the new moon marking the beginning of Dhu Al Hijjah is expected to form on Sunday, May 17, at 12:01am UAE time. He said the moon will remain visible after sunset later that day. “The moon will set approximately 58 minutes after sunset, be positioned about 10 degrees above the horizon, and have an age of 18 hours and 56 minutes, making it visible,” Al Jarwan said. Based on these calculations, Monday, May 18, is likely to be the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah for the Islamic year 1447 AH. The exact dates of Islamic holidays in the UAE are officially confirmed through moon-sighting committees closer to the time. Eid Al Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important holidays in Islam and is observed with prayers, charity, and the ritual sacrifice of livestock. ICA/Expat Media
