Residents in the UAE may be in for an extended break this May, as early astronomical forecasts point to a possible six-day holiday for Eid Al Adha. According to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomical Society, Eid Al Adha is expected to begin on Wednesday (May 27), with Arafah Day falling on Tuesday (May 26). Arafah Day, one of the most important days in the Islamic calendar, marks a key moment during the Hajj pilgrimage, when pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. In the UAE, Arafah Day is observed as a one-day public holiday, followed by three official days for Eid Al Adha from May 27 to May 29. If these dates are confirmed, residents could enjoy a six-day break when combined with the Saturday-Sunday weekend. As with all Islamic holidays, final dates will depend on the official moon sighting, which determines the start of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah. For many Muslims, Arafah Day also holds deep spiritual significance. While fasting on this day is not mandatory, it is widely encouraged for those not performing the Hajj pilgrimage. Eid Al Adha, known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the most important religious occasions in Islam and is marked by prayers, charitable giving, and gatherings with family and community.
