The first day of Eid Al Adha in most Islamic countries is likely to be on July 9, which falls on a Saturday, the International Astronomical Centre has announced. Mohammad Odeh, Chairman of the International Astronomical Centre, said on Monday (June 27) that the month of Zul Hijjah is likely to begin on June 30, which falls on a Thursday. Arafat Day is expected to fall on Friday, July 8, which could mean that the Eid Al Adha weekend will run from July 9 to 12. This would mean a five-day holiday in the UAE. Eid Al Adha, or the “Feast of Sacrifice,” is an important Muslim holiday that honours the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son. Islamic New Year will follow on July 30, which falls on a Saturday, but it is not expected to be declared a public holiday.
