Residents across the UAE could be in for a four-day weekend as Eid Al Adha is expected to begin on Friday, June 6, according to a forecast by the Emirates Astronomy Society. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the society’s Board of Directors, said that Wednesday, May 28, will likely be the first day of Dhul Hijjah. As a result, the Hajj season is expected to begin on June 4 with the Day of Tarwiyah, followed by the Day of Arafat on Thursday, June 5. “Friday, June 6, will be the Day of Sacrifice and the start of Eid Al Adha,” Al Jarwan confirmed. If the prediction holds, the public holiday could span from Thursday through Sunday, aligning with the official UAE calendar and offering a rare extended weekend. However, the final dates are subject to moon sighting and will be officially announced by UAE authorities. Eid Al Adha, one of the most important Islamic holidays, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. It also marks the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
