Eid Al Fitr holidays in UAE announced: long weekend expected

DUBAI – Employees in the UAE will be in for a long weekend to mark Eid Al Fitr after an announcement by the UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources on Monday (May 11). In a Twitter update, the authority said Eid Al Fitr will be from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3. The holiday is likely to be a long weekend starting on either  Saturday (May 23) or Sunday (May 24). The first day of Eid Al Fitr will be announced on the evening of May 22, after the moon-sighting committee meet remotely to search for a new crescent moon. The Eid Al Fitr holiday announcement is expected to cover both public and private sector workers in line with the UAE Cabinet’s announcement last year. ICA/Expat Media
