DUBAI - An emergency insurance covering treatment for cancer and newborn screenings will soon be available to visitors as an extension of basic packages, a Dubai Health Authority Official (DHA) said. Haider Al Yousuf, director of health funding at DHA, told XPRESS that although the emergency insurance coverage "exists to a certain extent", it will be implemented in a larger scale in 2018. "While emergency coverage will be applicable to all visitors, essential basic packages for residents will also cover structured programmes in the treatment of cervical, colorectal and breast cancers, besides screenings of newborns and milestones in a child’s development,” Al Yousuf said. Mandatory health insurance was completed in 2017, raising the number of people insured in Dubai to 4.6 million.
