‘Emir of Daesh’ in UAE sentenced to jail and charged with seven terror - related offenses

  ABU DHABI – The leader of Daesh in the UAE was sentenced to life in prison on Monday on charges of terrorism. The Federal Supreme Court also found Mohammad Abdul Qader Salem Al Hashemi guilty of planning to assassinate one of the UAE’s leaders. He was charged with seven terror-related offenses, including plotting to bomb a shopping mall and a military site. The 34-year-old Emirati and his wife had sworn allegiance to Daesh, a prosecution witness told the court. “The man was also named Emir of Daesh in the UAE after he took an oath of allegiance to Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi, leader of the terrorist organisation,” the witness said. The court ordered the confiscation seized items which were used by Al Hashemi to commit terrorist crimes, including devices, tools and software programmes. It also ordered the closure of all blogs and websites that Al Hashemi used to promote Daesh. Al Hashemi’s wife was the Emirati woman executed for murdering an American teacher in Abu Dhabi. She was executed in July last year. Al Hashemi tried to join Daesh in Iraq but opted to work in the UAE to support the terrorist organization.
