Emirates extends salary cuts until September
DUBAI – Dubai-based airline Emirates announced on Sunday (June 7) it is extending pay cuts until September 30 amid the economic impact of Covid-19. The move comes after Emirates announced last week it is laying off some employees. From April to June, it also reduced basic salaries by up to 50 percent. In its recent announcement, Emirates said the pay cut will be extended for three more months as airlines around the world struggled with a dip in travel demand. Another UAE-based airline, Etihad Airways, announced on Thursday that it was also extending salary deductions until September. According to Etihad, junior staff and cabin crew will get 25 percent pay cuts, while managers will get a 50 percent pay cut. Housing allowance and a number of benefits continue to be paid, the airline's spokesperson said in a statement.
