Emirati boy, Ethiopian nanny drown in Ras Al Khaimah hotel pool
DUBAI – An investigation is underway after a 4-year-old Emirati boy and his Ethiopian nanny drowned in a hotel swimming pool in Ras Al Khaimah. Police said the incident happened at around 8pm on Wednesday (December 15), an hour after the pool was closed off to guests and the lifeguard had left. Security footage from the site showed the boy and the Ethiopian woman walking towards the pool area. They appeared to have accidentally ended up in the deep end of the pool. Footage showed the 23-year-old Ethiopian trying to help the boy while also struggling to stay afloat. A guest who spotted the two from his balcony called for help. The pair was found unconscious when hotel staff reached them. Paramedics tried but failed to resuscitate the boy on their way to Saqr Hospital. Rescuers also failed to resuscitate the Ethiopian woman, who was taken to Ibrahim bin Hamad Obaidullah Hospital. Police said the boy was checked in the hotel with his family from Abu Dhabi.
