Emirati girl stranded in Saudi Arabia for 50 days reunites with parents

  DUBAI – A three-year-old Emirati girl stranded in Saudi Arabia for 50 days has been reunited with her parents amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Ghalia Mohammed Al Amoodi was flown from Dammam to Dubai following special arrangements between the UAE and Saudi authorities. Earlier in March, Al Amoodie had travelled with her grandmother to Dammam for a family visit. Her mother was supposed to follow her to Dammam in two days before flights were grounded as part of global measures against the spread of Covid-19, leaving her daughter stranded in Saudi Arabia. The girl was finally able to return home to the UAE on April 22 following efforts by the UAE government and Saudi authorities. Her father, Mohammed, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation looked after his daughter to ensure her safe return to the UAE. Mohammed expressed gratefulness to the UAE government for “unsurprisingly standing by us in this crisis, and standing by every citizen and resident in our homeland". Dubai-based airline Emirates is running limited flights to certain countries to repatriate citizens to their home countries. The airline's flights into the UAE are only for Emiratis wishing to return to the country. ICA/Expat Media
