A 52-year-old Emirati man was injured after a gas leak triggered an explosion and fire at his home in Khorfakkan, according to Sharjah Police. The incident happened early on Friday morning (September 26), when the victim’s family reported hearing an explosion at 6am. Emergency teams and the National Ambulance rushed to the scene, where the man was found with burns and taken to hospital for treatment. Colonel Walid Al Yamahi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department, said initial investigations by Sharjah Civil Defence fire experts revealed that a limited gas leak from the home’s sewage system caused the blaze. The accident follows another recent gas-related tragedy. On September 12, an Asian housemaid in Ras Al Khaimah suffered life-threatening burns when a mouse chewed through a gas cylinder tube, causing an explosion. The 42-year-old woman initially sustained 98 percent burns, though doctors later reduced the assessment to 67 percent after intensive treatment. A family member of the woman's employer, Musbeh Mohammed Al Yaleili, described the terrifying scene: “The flames spread rapidly, destroying much of the house and its contents. We are grieving for the housemaid and praying for her recovery.” Authorities are urging residents across the UAE to ensure gas safety in their homes and check connections regularly to avoid such devastating accidents.
