Investigation continues into case of Emirati mistaken for Daesh member in US

  ABU DHABI – An Emirati businessman arrested by US police after being mistaken as a Daesh member wants his "dignity restored" and is awaiting investigations to close before deciding on a next course of action, his law firm announced on Sunday (July 10). Ahmed Al Menhali was in the US for medical treatment when he was arrested by policemen carrying assault rifles. He was tackled onto the ground and handcuffed. He was later freed, but not before he collapsed from trauma and had to be rushed to a hospital. Police are looking for more evidence and are reviewing footage from a police camera and hotel video surveillance, his law firm said in a statement. “Once our investigation is completed, we will analyse which federal and state laws of the United States apply to this situation. At that time, with the express permission of Mr Al Menhali, we will proceed accordingly,” the statement said. Al Menhali has been in the US since April for medical treatment at a heart clinic. His law firm said the Emirati is "protected by and has the legal benefits allowed by laws of the United States of America". "Proper application of these laws will be a step towards returning to him his dignity which was so callously challenged,” the law firm said.
