A 16-year-old Emirati teenager has died after slipping into a dam in Ras Al Khaimah while trying to wash his feet near the water’s edge, his family said. The victim, identified as Rashed Juma Ali Al Mazrouei, was a Grade 10 student. According to his family, the tragic incident happened on May 9 at around 4:30pm while he was out on a bicycle ride with his cousin near Wadi Adhen Dam. His father, Juma Ali Al Mazrouei, said the teenagers had stopped at the site after recent rainfall left the surrounding area muddy and the dam filled with water. “The ground was muddy, and their feet got dirty, so Rashed tried to wash his feet at the water’s edge, but his foot suddenly slipped into the dam,” the father said. Rashed reportedly did not know how to swim. His cousin attempted to rescue him but was unable to reach him in time. He then called Rashed's family for help. When family members arrived, they saw Rashed floating on the surface of the water. His father said he and his brother attempted to enter the dam to pull the teenager out but were hindered by thick mud beneath the water. Emergency and rescue teams later arrived at the scene and recovered the teenager’s body.
