Emiratis may soon drive taxis

  ABU DHABI – Your taxi driver in Abu Dhabi could soon be an Emirati after an Emiratisation plan by the taxi regulatory authority, a transport official revealed. Mohammad Al Qamzi, general manager at The Centre for Regulation of Transport By Hire Cars (TransAD), said that 90 percent of employees there are Emiratis. The company wants to see Emiratis driving TransAD taxis and "taking up this honourable profession”, he said. There are currently 7,645 taxis in Abu Dhabi, with more than 10,000 drivers.
