End of 20kph speeding buffer? UAE police wants your opinion
DUBAI – To keep or not to keep. That was the question that the head of the Federal National Council asked the public regarding the 20kph buffer for speeding drivers.
On Twitter, Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, also assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police, asked the public if they think the 20kph speed buffer and fine should be kept or scrapped, or if the fine should be reduced to Dh300.
Motorists driving at a speed of 139kph on a 120kph road will not be caught by speed radars. The fine for speeding starts at Dh600.
Al Zafeen said that the police have not yet made plans but that he wanted to get the public’s opinion on the matter.
In the first seven months of 2017, traffic accidents in Dubai have claimed the lives of 29 people. Speeding was the second most common cause of accidents in Dubai. DAJ/Expat Media
