Etihad Rail: Use Nol cards to book tickets

Commuters will be able to use their Nol cards to pay for train tickets on Etihad Rail once the passenger train service is launched, according to Etihad Rail. The service comes after Etihad Rail and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) signed a memorandum of understanding on the matter. According to Etihad Rail, the Nol card ticketing system will be “one of the various ticket booking and fare payment solutions” to travel on the UAE railway network. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed, Chairman of Etihad Rail, said the railway operator will leverage RTA’s expertise in smart ticketing. The RTA recently announced a multi-billion-dollar project to upgrade the Nol card, integrating Artificial Intelligence as well as connectivity to smart devices as part of a digital payment system. When will Etihad Rail passenger service start? Authorities have yet to announce a launch date for Etihad Rail’s passenger services, but the train network is expected to cover the emirates and 11 stations, including Al Sila and Fujairah. The high-speed train can travel at up to 200kmph and is expected to cut the travel time by up to 40 percent, making travel between emirates a matter of minutes instead of hours. ICA/Expat Media
