Etihad Rail has officially confirmed that its much-anticipated passenger train service will begin operations in 2026, marking a milestone in the UAE’s vision for a sustainable and efficient transportation network. The update was shared via Etihad Rail's official X (formerly Twitter) account following a high-level meeting with Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region. The delegation was led by Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, and took place at Al Dhanna Palace. “The project stands as one of the country’s largest strategic transportation projects, reflecting His Highness’s ongoing commitment to monitoring national projects and his continued support for infrastructure development initiatives across the UAE,” the post rad. During the briefing, Sheikh Hamdan was updated on the current developments of the UAE National Railway Network, with emphasis on the passenger segment set to launch in two years. Once operational, the train is expected to connect major cities, enabling residents and tourists to travel swiftly and sustainably across the country. Etihad Rail was established under UAE Federal Law to oversee the construction, development, and operation of both freight and passenger rail services across the emirates. The rail network is expected to significantly reduce road congestion, lower carbon emissions and provide a modern, eco-friendly alternative to road travel.
