Expat Media recently celebrated the completion of its fifth batch of college interns, continuing its commitment to nurturing young talent in the media industry. This year’s group of interns came from Cebu Technological University (CTU), further strengthening the ongoing partnership between the university and Expat Media. Florence Pia Yu, Editor-in-Chief of Expat Media and the supervisor of this year's interns, emphasized the program's focus on mentorship and professional growth. She said, "At Expat Media, our internship program is designed to be a learning journey, and I'm committed to providing personalized guidance and mentorship to each intern. My goal is to ensure that every intern feels supported and confident in their role." Dr. Mila Mae Caballero, Chairman of the Department of Communication at CTU, highlighted the benefits of the program, noting, "In the previous institution, the interns we had with Expat Media were provided with an 'employee' treatment. They were able to develop self-discipline, especially in gathering news and providing interesting stories. The training that Expat Media provided has instilled in the interns a sense of responsibility, accuracy, and promptness." Prof. Grace Gay Cabellon, the Internship Adviser for DevCom students at CTU, praised the partnership's growth over the years, stating, "What has evolved throughout the past two years is the trust that Expat Media gained from CTU and the trust we gained from them because the students we assign to Expat Media are extraordinary students whom we believe excel in journalism writing and creative thinking." Launched in 2021, Expat Media’s internship program offers Communication and Journalism students from both the UAE and the Philippines a unique opportunity to gain practical skills in writing and publishing while exploring careers in the media industry. Throughout the summer, all four interns actively participated in editing articles and writing their own stories, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the field. Among the interns, Fhel Lorainne Epili stood out by winning the Journalism Award in the Expat Media Editorial Awards. Epili further distinguished herself by securing a part-time job offer with Expat Media, demonstrating the program's potential to launch careers in media. Reflecting on her experience, Epili shared, "I actually feel honored and blessed to be offered such an opportunity, and I am beyond grateful for Expat Media, especially to Ma'am Pia, for recognizing and trusting my potential. Nothing's final yet, as it is still under discussion, but I am positively considering the offer and hoping for the best."
