The Cebu Technological University (CTU) and Dubai-based media company Expat Media have signed a memorandum of agreement to offer an internship programme to students. Expat Media’s internship programme with CTU, one of the first schools in the Philippines, provides training in news and feature writing, news editing and news publishing for digital newsrooms, as well as digital marketing. CTU’s graduating college students taking up Journalism and Communication are accepted into the training program. The MoU for the internship program was signed by Expat Media COO and Editor-in-Chief Florence Pia G. Yu and Reah G. Fabrica, University Director for OJT at CTU. “We are happy to have CTU as one of our university partners in our media internship program. We want our interns to get value from our training program that will hopefully inspire them to become future journalists,” Yu said. Interns undergo practical training for up to 180 days, depending on the nature of their training. On completion of their training, students are given a certificate, as well as rewards for Best Story, Best Social Media content, among other editorial awards, Yu added. Established in 2016, Expat Media Group has received multiple recognition for its work with several government agencies in the UAE. Its news division includes Expatmedia.net and the Expat Media Special Edition magazine. The media group also has a PR division and events management division. Expat Media’s top editors are recipients of the Journalism Awards in Dubai, presented by Sheikh Majid bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. Editor-in-Chief Yu is a two-time recipient of award, along with Expat Media’s CEO and Executive Editor Mars Yabut De los Santos. Cebu Technological University, formerly known as Cebu State College of Science and Technology, was founded by Americans in 1911 when the Cebu Trade School was established. The school produced its frst graduates in 1912. It became a state university in 2009. CTU has one main campus, nine satellite schools and 13 extension campuses throughout Cebu.
