Dubai-based Expat Media received recognition from Cebu Technological University (CTU) during its College of Arts and Sciences Partner Industries Summit on June 10. The awarding ceremony was held at the CTU Gymnasium in Cebu City, Philippines and was attended by CTU’s industry partners, teachers and officials, including Dr. Ramel Genobiagon, Campus Director of CTU Main; Dr. Adeline Purisima Dela Cruz, University Director for Internship and Dr. Edwin Andaya, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. CTU has partnered with Expat Media for an internship programme for the university’s graduating students taking up journalism and communication studies. The internship provides training in news and feature writing, news editing and news publishing for digital newsrooms, as well as digital marketing. “We thank the Cebu Technological University for this recognition. It is personally an honor for me, foremost as a journalist by heart, to open our platform and share our media expertise to help the younger generation get first-hand experience of working in this sector,” said Expat Media’s owner, CEO and Executive Editor, Mars Yabut De Los Santos. De Los Santos is a Mass Communication graduate and media professional who is a recipient of the coveted Journalism Awards in Dubai, presented by Sheikh Majid bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. Expat Media’s Editor-in-Chief, Florence Pia Yu, is a two-time recipient of the Journalism Awards and is considered one of the pioneering online news editors in the UAE where she started her media career in 2001. “When I joined the media industry as a fresh graduate in Mass Communication, I remember receiving a lot of support and encouragement from senior editors and managers who helped me grow in my career. I see this internship as a way of giving back and sharing our knowledge with today’s youth to open their minds to a potential career in the media industry or a related field. We are happy to play a role in helping students on their journey to discovery,” said Yu. Established in 2016, Expat Media Group has received multiple recognition for its work with several local and government agencies in the UAE, including the Excellence Award from the Sharjah Labour Standards and Development Authority. Expat Media’s news division includes Expatmedia.net and the Expat Media Special Edition magazine. The media group also has a PR division and events management division.
