Workers had planned to go home to their countries during Eid Al Adha holidays

ABU DHABI – A group of Bangladeshi laborers working at Musaffah industrial area have accused a travel agency of allegedly issuing them fake travel tickets. The workers had planned to go home to Bangladesh to spend the Eid Al Adha holidays with their families. The workers went to the travel agency identified as Silk Line Travel at Sector 24 of the industrial area to complain about the invalid Biman Bangladesh airline tickets but the office was closed. They were told that the travel agency operated for only a few hours last August 25 and did not open anymore since then. The complaining workers paid amounts ranging between Dh1,500 to Dh2,000 for the tickets, it was learned. Reports said a representative of the travel agency claimed that two to three passengers had a problem with their tickets, adding that they will solve the problem and refund the ticketholders. The travel agency representative also blamed an airline for what happened but did not provide proof to back up its accusation. The representative further said that they closed the office because the ticketholders won't accept their explanation unless they get a refund. Biman Bangladesh Airlines, for its part, said the travel agency allegedly made false bookings and issued receipts to the workers instead of plane tickets. Meanwhile, the Bangldeshi embassy said they are investigating the matter and assured the complaining workers of assistance.
