Golden visa holders can skip extra lessons to get driving licence
DUBAI – Expatriates with a golden visa and a driving license from their home country will not be required to get extra driving lessons to get their driving licence in Dubai. According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Tuesday (January 4), golden visa holders from any country can now skip driving lessons and can take a driving test instead. Under the existing law, expats with a driving licence from 32 approved countries are eligible for a UAE driving licence, but must take extra driving lessons before they can take a driving test. The 32 approved countries include India, Pakistan, Philippines, US, UK, Australia, Italy, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, New Zealand, Qatar, Kuwait and Ireland. As of January 4, golden visa holders from any country will not need to take extra driving lessons, and can just pass the knowledge test and driving test in the UAE to get a driving licence. Golden visa holders can present a copy of their valid driving licence from their home country, and the results of their knowledge test and driving test. According to the RTA, those who fail their driving test will be required to take at least four hours of driving lessons before they can redo the test. The RTA said applicants can submit their interest through the RTA website or at the nearest RTA centres. Those qualified are Emiratis and expat residents in Dubai. Emiratis and Dubai residents who are above the legal age and medically fit are eligible to apply for this service.Required documents
