If your driving licence is about to expire, there is no need to stress. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has made it easier for residents and citizens to renew their driving licences online. This guide walks you through the eligibility criteria, required documents, and fees, making your renewal process as smooth as possible.

Who is Eligible?

The service is available to individual customers, including citizens and residents. People of Determination (with physical disabilities), diplomats, and Emirati passport holders with special cases also qualify under different categories.

What are the documents needed?

Before you begin the online renewal process, make sure you have the following documents ready, based on your category: For all nationalities: - Valid Emirates ID. - Eye test result (valid for two years). - Medical fitness test (required only if your profession is listed as "driver"). For diplomats: - A letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. - Emirates ID (if applicable). - A diplomatic card (replacing Emirates ID). For People of Determination: - A copy of the certificate of transfer to a doctor issued by the Licensing Agency. Note: The customer should refer to Rashid Hospital for the medical test. For Emirati Passport Holders (Without a Family Book): - Original valid passport. - Copy of the valid Marsoom. For Sons of Emirati Women: - Copy of the valid passport. - A letter from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs confirming your mother’s Emirati citizenship.

How much will it cost?

The service fees vary depending on your age and the state of your licence. Here’s a breakdown of the costs: For Drivers Younger Than 21: - Dh100 for driving licence renewal. - Dh20 for Knowledge and Innovation fees. - Dh500 for the mobile truck service (if opting for the mobile eye test and licence renewal service). For Drivers Aged 21 and Older: - Dh300 for driving licence renewal. - Dh20 for Knowledge and Innovation fees. - Dh500 for the mobile truck service (if opting for the mobile eye test and licence renewal service). If Your Licence Expired Over 10 Years Ago: - Dh200 for opening a training file. - Dh100 for the learning application. - Dh50 for the handbook manual. - Dh200 for the RTA test. - Dh500 for delay fees. - Dh300 for the licence renewal fee. - Dh20 for Knowledge and Innovation fees. Keep in mind, if your licence has expired for more than 10 years, a monthly delay fine of Dh10 will be applied, up to a maximum of Dh500.

How long will the process take?

Once you’ve submitted all the necessary documents and passed any required tests, the renewal process takes no more than 5 minutes.

What should I do after preparing all the necessary documents?

1. Visit the RTA’s official website and click on the Driver and Car Owner Services tab. 2. Navigate to the Drivers Licencing section and select Renewing a driving licence. 3. Click Apply now, complete the renewal form, and upload the necessary documents. 4. Pay the service fees and any outstanding fines using a debit or credit card. 5. Once all requirements are met, you will receive a temporary driving licence instantly, which can be used until your new licence is ready. 6. The temporary licence is valid for 5 to 15 working days and is required for renewing your Dubai driving licence online. 7. You can collect your new licence from the Happiness Centres in Al Barsha or Deira. 8. If you're unable to pick it up, you can pay Dh25 for home delivery and have the licence sent directly to your doorstep.
