2,000 traffic violations caught by Ajman drone monitors as police find high-tech ways to patrol traffic

  AJMAN – Two thousand traffic violations have been caught since advanced drones were deployed in Ajman's road safety campaign beginning in March. The Ajman Police is the first UAE police department to use drones in patrolling traffic on the emirate's roads. The drones have infrared video cameras that can take photos and videos of traffic violations, including driving on the hard shoulder, obstructing traffic and failing to maintain lane discipline. The drones can read licence plates, spot traffic breaches, and detect structural faults on the roads. Police said that the drones are also being used to monitor roads to pinpoint traffic jams and accidents as well as monitor problem areas, such as roads affected by floods or other natural disasters.
