Family of Sharjah nurse to get Dh400,000 over medical negligence

  DUBAI - Following a four-year court battle, the family of a Sharjah-based nurse who died due to medical negligence will be getting a total of Dh400,000 from the clinic where she was treated. The Sharjah Civil Court ordered Dr Sunny Medical Centre to pay Dh200,000 in blood money and an additional Dh200,000 in legal costs to the family of Blessy Sara from Kerala, India. Sara died in Sharjah on November 2015 after having an allergic reaction to an antibiotic given to her without a mandatory test dose. She was rushed unconscious to the Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah where she died within a few hours. She was 32. The Ministry of Health investigation confirmed that Sara died die to gross negligence by the doctors as well as the clinic where she was first admitted. The court has ordered Dr Sunny Medical Centre and doctors Darshan Prabhat Rajaram and P Narayanara to pay blood money to Sara’s family. She left behind a husband and two children. The doctors have reportedly fled the UAE but the family’s legal consultant said they are pursuing all legal action and have also sought the help of the Indian Medical Council.
