DUBAI – The Food and Beverage Manufacturing Business Group (FBMG) of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce will start reducing food wastage from its member-establishments and all excess food will go to the UAE Food Bank The FBMG made the announcement at the Gulfood 2017 exhibition. The Gulfood 2017 is a business to business trade exhibition managed and hosted by the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC). The FBMG has launched FLW or the Food Loss and Waste Accounting and Reporting Standard, which is a global standard used in quantifying and reporting on amount of inedible food removed from the supply chain, thus allowing governments to account how much food waste is generated and where it goes. The government body will work with the Food Bank, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Dubai Municipality, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and all food manufactures in the UAE who have pledged to collaborate with the FBMG on this initiative. Part of the initiative is the creation of a food data platform, which will study data to formulate solutions to cut food wastage.
