Passenger on KLM flight from Abu Dhabi 'screaming and hitting wildly'

DUBAI - A KLM flight from Abu Dhabi to Amsterdam was escorted by fighter jets after a passenger attacked cabin crew and other passengers and sparked chaos in the aircraft. The American passenger, 29, was reportedly involved in a scuffle with other passengers and crew members but did not appear to be intoxicated, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. The scuffle sparked an alarm, and two Dutch air force F-16 fighter jets were called in to escort the KLM flight before it landed at Schiphol airport on Saturday. “At first we got him back in his chair, but shortly after he started screaming and hitting wildly,” a flight attendant told De Telegraaf. The passenger displayed "very threatening" and "aggressive" behaviour after being asked to return to his seat, said Joanna Helmonds, a spokesman for the Dutch police. The American was arrested after the KLM flight landed at Schiphol airport. Police said he was admitted to a psychiatric institution for observation.
