For Erna Magbanua and Ma. Theresa Gohing, life in Dubai has been a beautiful journey of reinvention and enduring friendship. The two long-time Filipina residents are the powerhouse duo behind Rose N’ Butterfly, a full-service events management company in Deira. Soon, they’re set to bloom even bigger with the upcoming launch of Rose N’ Butterfly Blooms Floral Studio & Gifts, their newest venture that promises to bring artful floral styling and elegance to every celebration. “We’ve been best friends for over 30 years,” Erna smiles. “We’ve shared so many dreams since our days back in Bacolod. This business is one of them finally coming true.” Both women trace their beginnings to Bacolod City, Negros Occidental. Long before Dubai’s skyline filled their view, their story began in the Philippines, where Theresa was already immersed in the world of business and Erna was shaping young minds as a teacher. “I grew up in a business-oriented family,” Theresa shares. “My parents taught me how to manage people and handle money early on. By high school, I was already doing the books for our fishing company.” Her father, she recalls, was an illiterate but sharp businessman. “He couldn’t read, but he could count money. I would read contracts for him and tell him when to sign. That responsibility made me grow up fast.” Erna’s early life was a mix of teaching and artistic pursuits. “I graduated in Literature, but art has always been my passion,” she says. “Painting, crafts, creating something beautiful — that’s where I’m happiest. When I came to Dubai 20 years ago, I dreamed of having my own events company someday.” The two first met when Erna became Theresa’s son’s teacher in the Philippines. A friendship bloomed — one built on mutual admiration, shared values, and humor that still keeps them grounded decades later. “We’ve always been business partners in spirit,” Erna says. “Theresa gives the business ideas, and I bring them to life.” They’ve tried many ventures together — from perfume sales to small businesses in the Philippines. But their biggest leap came after the pandemic, when they both realized it was time to finally invest in their dream. “We told ourselves, we’re not getting any younger,” Theresa laughs. “If not now, when? We wanted to build something with purpose; something that could also help others.”

Birth of Rose N’ Butterfly

The duo launched Rose N’ Butterfly, an events management and decoration company that handles everything from floral styling and stage design to entertainment and full coordination. Its upcoming sister brand, Rose N’ Butterfly Blooms Floral Studio & Gifts, adds the perfect finishing touch, specializing in bespoke floral arrangements and personalized gifts. “The name came from what we believe in,” Erna explains. “The rose symbolizes love, life, and hope. The butterfly represents transformation and endurance. Together, they tell our story of grace, change, and resilience.” Theresa adds, “Our motto is ‘Where every petal tells a story.’ Every event we handle, whether it’s a wedding, concert or corporate event, is treated with care as if it were our own celebration.” Their standout project? The Laugh Out Loud show with Filipino comedians Super Tekla and Ady. “It wasn’t just about comedy,” says Erna. “It was about bringing joy to hundreds of OFWs who needed a good laugh. Seeing that made every sleepless night worth it.” Starting a business in their 50s didn’t scare them — it inspired them. “Age is just a number,” Theresa insists. “We still feel young and active. If it’s your passion, you don’t think about your age.” Erna agrees. “Retiring and not doing anything will only age you faster. We’re happiest when we’re creating and making people happy.” What truly sets the duo apart is their purpose-driven mindset. Beyond business success, they want Rose N’ Butterfly to provide jobs and opportunities, especially for Filipinos. Even with their growing success, Erna and Theresa say they’re only at the beginning of their journey. “We’re excited for what’s next,” Erna shares. “Our goal is to keep growing, keep creating, and bring more people together through our work.” The duo is now preparing to expand with the upcoming launch of their floral and gift shop, where clients can find all their creative event and styling needs under one roof. “Five years from now, we want Rose N’ Butterfly to be known not just for beautiful events,” Erna says, “but for the heart and purpose behind every one of them.” And as they continue to bloom in the UAE, the two best friends prove that with faith, courage, and love, it’s never too late to chase your dreams.
