Filipina snaps out of long coma, ready to return home

  DUBAI - A Filipina who was comatose for nine months is recovering at Rashid Hospital and is ready to reunite with her family in the Philippines. Perlite Almonte, 35, was first admitted to Rashid Hospital on April 18, 2015 after she was found unconscious in the bathroom of her residence. Almonte, a supervisor in a courier company, slipped into a coma after she suffered a stroke that caused a bleeding within the brain tissue. She underwent surgery to drain the blood and was kept on a ventilator for more than two weeks. She regained consciousness in January 2016 and was put on intensive active physiotherapy and neurological rehabilitation. She is now able to walk with some assistance. “I have spent over a year and nine months at Rashid Hospital, I now consider the doctors and nurses at the hospital my family. I am truly thankful for the treatment I have received at Rashid Hospital. I am glad that I am recovering and I can’t wait to go to the Philippines to see my children,” said the mother of two, who is still struggling to regain her normal speech.
