Filipina killed in Dubai Hills hit-and-run now repatriated to Philippines

The body of a Filipina killed in a hit-and-run incident in Dubai Hills arrived in her Philippine hometown on Tuesday (February 14). The victim, identified as 48-year-old Gina Añolga Sorianosos, was hit by a car while at the pedestrian crossing on the evening of February 2. She was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Expatmedia.net contacted Gina’s 20-year-old daughter, Britney, who was very distraught about her mother’s plight in the emirate. On Tuesday, Britney shared that her mother’s coffin arrived at their home in Mlang in North Cotabato, Philippines. Before her untimely death, Gina worked in Dubai to be able to support her family and have a decent home constructed for them. “Welcome home, Ma. Finally after a decade you have come home to the house you worked hard for, but you are now in a coffin,” Britney said in a Facebook post in Filipino. “It hurts to see you in there now. We can’t do anything to bring you back,” Britney added. Witnesses said Gina was on her way home from work in Dubai Hills, also known as Dubai Hills Estate, when she was hit by a car at the pedestrian crossing. She was trying to catch the free bus home from the luxury residential area located within Mohammed bin Rashid City. Her daughter, Britney, said that Gina had been working abroad for nearly ten years, and haven’t seen her family within that time. Britney, now a college student, said she was only in Grade 4 when her mother left to work abroad. In Dubai, Gina was well-liked, her friends said. Her employer and the community in Dubai Hills reportedly pooled money to be able to fund the immediate repatriation of her remains. Gina’s childhood classmate and neighbour, Eden Clavel, a former Dubai resident, told Expatmedia.net that she was very saddened by Gina’s untimely death. “She was very determined in life. She really worked hard for her family. She even had a house constructed for her family that was damaged by an earthquake,” Clavel said. ICA/Expat Media
