Filipina with mother stranded in Dubai wins Dh333,333 in Mahzooz

  DUBAI – A Filipina analyst in Dubai whose mother is stranded in the emirate is now Dh333,333 richer after winning the Dh1 million secondary prize in Mahzooz that she shares with two other winners. Rea (full name withheld) said she didn’t know about her big win until Sunday, when she checked her emails. The draw was held on Saturday. "I was having morning coffee with my mom. I then checked my emails and came across an email from Mahzooz saying that I've won Dh333,333. I simply couldn't believe it,” Rea said. “I showed the email to my mom and we both shed tears of joy," the 41-year-old Filipina said. Rea is currently helping her mother who is stranded in Dubai due to a Philippine-imposed travel restriction due to Covid-19. “This is a blessing because now with this prize money, I can apply for a residence visa for her so she can stay with me here," Rea said. The Filipina is an analyst for a food packaging company in Dubai where she has lived in the last 13 years. Meanwhile, an Emirati and Russian will also get Dh333,333 after splitting the Dh1 million prize with Rea. The trio matched five out of six winning numbers in last Saturday’s draw. Emirati national F. Ahmed, 39, said her inspiration to participate in Mahzooz was the charitable aspect of the draw. "When I knew about Mahzooz I was so intrigued by the idea of getting an entry to a draw by donating a bottle of water to the needy. So, participating in Mahzooz has always been a win-win situation for me. I won the Dh35 fourth prize multiple times and the Dh1,000 third prize once, but winning Dh333,333 is a different story. I feel happy and blessed," "As a wife and a mother of two children, this prize money is a great gift for our family. It will also help me embark on my journey in the investment world," said F. Ahmed. For the Russian winner, Muslim, 42, a father of five, winning the second prize in Mahzooz is a turning point for him and his family.
