Filipina Starbucks Dubai manager honored for returning Dh195,000 left by customer

DUBAI – A 27-year-old Filipina manager of Starbucks at The Dubai Mall has been honored by the Dubai Police for returning Dh195,000 left by a customer at the café. Mae Anne Olmidillo said the incident happened on April 18, when she and a barista noticed a bag left in the premises at around 6pm. Olmidillo said she checked the bag for information about the owner and found that it contained Dh195,000 in cash, two cheques totaling Dh506,250, a cheque book and title deeds. The Filipina said they waited for the customer to collect the bag, but when no one showed up, she called the police to report the incident and hand over the bag. The Dubai Police were able to track the owner, who said he was too exhausted to notice that he had left the bag at the café. He claimed the bag at around 10pm at the police station where he was able to personally meet and thank Olmidillo. Meanwhile, Colonel Rashid Mohammed Al Shehi, Deputy Director of the Bur Dubai Police Station, praised Olmidillo for being a "true example of honesty" and called on UAE residents and citizens to follow her example. Police officers surprised the Filipina with a visit at Starbucks in Dubai Mall on August 29 to present her with a certificate of appreciation.
