3 Dubai security guards save 2 men from toxic fumes
DUBAI – Two Pakistani security guards and their Filipino colleague saved two people who were trapped in a tank containing toxic fumes at a major tourist attraction in Dubai. Muhammed Zubair, Richard Estebat and Muhammad Iftikhar of Transguard Group were doing their regular security duty when the incident happened. After noticing a commotion in the mechanical room, Zubair went inside to investigate and found the two contractual workers trapped in the tank. The victims were in a “semi-conscious” state. Zubair immediately called for back-up, calling his Pakistani colleague Iftikhar and Filipino colleague Estebat for help. "We didn't think of anything and just went to help the guys. It's my responsibility and job as a security ," said Zubair, who has worked for Transguard Group for four years. The trio took it upon themselves to rescue the two men before the paramedics took over. "I felt that if I didn't go inside, they could die in minutes. I wore two masks and went in the tank and with Richard's help I got them out," said Iftikhar. Their quick action saved the lives of the two men, who were contractors for a facility management company servicing the site. Estebat said: "We helped the two people there because as a security we need to secure the lives of people, so we just did our best.” On arrival at the scene, parademics gave immediate treatment to the contractors as well as the security guards. An investigation revealed that the tank contained toxic fumes. Transguard Group has praised the security guards for their “timely display of courage in an extraordinary situation". The men were also given certificates and a cash reward at a recognition ceremony in the Transguard headquarters. "They have put others before themselves...We are incredibly proud of them," said Tim Mundell, Chief Security Officer.
