Filipino in Abu Dhabi wins share of Dh1 million prize

  DUBAI – A 53-year-old Filipino emergency medical crew in Abu Dhabi is one of ten people who shared the Dh1 million secondary prize in a recent Mahzooz draw. Five other Filipinos also won by matching five out of six winning numbers during the September 18 draw. The winning numbers were 3, 6, 9, 11, 23 and 43. The grand prize of Dh50 million is still up for grabs. Hannibal (full name withheld), a staff of Abu Dhabi Emergency Medical Service, said it was his first time to win a huge amount in a raffle draw. He is taking home Dh100,000. “I have been participating in lotto, even in the Philippines,” he was quoted as saying in Filipino by GMA News Online. Hannibal said had he matched all six numbers to win the Dh50 million jackpot, he would have said “bye-bye” to working abroad. The Filipino has been working in the UAE in the last 15 years. Hannibal, whose job includes transporting Covid-19 patients to hospitals, said he will invest his winnings to secure the education of his four children. "They're all I have," he said. Other winners include 45-year-old Indian expat Sulthan, who said that winning the draw saved his home from foreclosure. “I almost lost my dream home as I couldn't afford to pay the mortgage I had back in India. Thankfully, luck knocked on my door at the right time,” said Sulthan, who works as a storekeeper in Dubai. Ulysses, 58, a Filipino safety manager in Saudi Arabia, chose his numbers combining the dates of his parents' birthdays, their death anniversaries and their age when they left him. "I had a gut feeling that I would be a winner because those numbers are significant in my life. Now that I have won, I'll cherish these numbers even more," Ulysses said.
