Filipino cancer patient in UAE gets wish granted with repatriation

DUBAI – A cancer patient got her wish granted after she and a group of Filipinos flew home on a repatriation flight from the UAE on Friday, according to the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi. “The cancer patient’s wish to spend her remaining days with her family in the Philippines was finally granted today when the repatriation flight landed at NAIA this morning,” according to the embassy. After arriving in Manila, she was taken to hospital in Las Piñas for assessment and evaluation. The latest repatriates arrived in Manila on Friday (May 29) on a special flight arranged by the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi with the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs. They included Overseas Filipino Workers stranded in the UAE after a daily limit was imposed by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases on OFW arrivals at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The Abu Dhabi-Manila flight, along with two others this week, are a “big relief to many OFWs in UAE who have been hoping to be brought home”, the embassy said. Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Hjayceelyn Quintana, thanked Philippine authorities for acting swiftly to address the backlog situation. “The Philippine missions in the UAE, together with OUMWA-DFA and Philippine authorities, continue to work together to find ways to ease Covid-19-related Philippine airport restrictions to allow Filipinos from UAE to return home, in response to their urgent pleas,” Quintana said. According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), some 24,000 OFWs have been repatriated from different countries due to the coronavirus pandemic. OFWs who completed quarantine on arrival in the Philippines and have tested negative for Covid-19 have been transported to their hometowns beginning on May 25, with 22,426 sent home as of Saturday (May 30), said DOLE Undersecretary Claro Arellano. Arellano assured that DOLE will do its best to transport all remaining OFWs still in quarantine facilities before the deadline set by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday. ICA/Expat Media https://www.expatmedia.net/repatriation-jobless-filipinos-uae-avail/2020/04/ https://www.expatmedia.net/no-need-embassy-consulate-help-flight-bookings-philippine-embassy-uae-tells-filipinos/2020/05/ https://www.expatmedia.net/filipinos-uae-warned-scammers-offering-repatriation-help/2020/04/
