Filipino cleaner accused of killing boss' niece in Dubai

  DUBAI - "During the scuffle, the knife landed on her neck but I did not intend to kill her… it happened by mistake," a 32-year-old Filipino hotel cleaner told the court at his trial for allegedly killing his Filipina boss' niece. The Filipino allegedly stabbed the woman dead following an argument at his boss' apartment where the younger Filipina was staying. The man went there to ask for help in resolving a labour dispute with his employer. He reportedly resigned from work in August and was asked by the hotel management to pay Dh6,000 to accept his resignation. He visited his Filipina boss' apartment to ask for help in order to skip paying the amount. She was not at her apartment when the scuffle broke out between the man and her niece. After the incident, the Filipino rushed to his brother's residence and asked him to call the police. He was arrested there and taken into custody. In court, the Filipino pleaded not guilty to killing the woman. The victim had stayed in Dubai for a week and was due to be hired as a nurse in Abu Dhabi, her aunt told the court. The Filipina also testified that the suspect asked her to negotiate with the hotel management to "pardon him from paying Dh6,000". "We were friends and used to cook together. A week prior to the incident, I saw him in a supermarket and he asked me to help him … I told him that I would try,” she told prosecutors.
