'Slim chance' of lawsuit in case of Filipino who died in Ras Al Khaimah, family ‘just wants body home’

  DUBAI – The family of a Filipino who allegedly died from a botched cosmetic enhancement procedure in Ras Al Khaimah will not be pressing charges against the suspected culprit and just wants his remains repatriated home, Philippine consulate officials said on Thursday (September 8). The victim was identified as 26-year-old M.L. His relative in the UAE is working with consular staff and local authorities for the early repatriation of his remains, Consul Ferdinand Flores in Dubai told ExpatMedia.Net. The victim’s employer will pay for the repatriation costs. Flores said that the victim’s friends in Ras Al Khaimah and the Filipino community leader there alerted the consulate about the incident. The consul said it was not clear if the Filipino died following a breast enhancement procedure, and whether the treatment was done at a salon in the emirate, but that the victim's friends said that an unlicensed individual had performed the procedure in Ras Al Khaimah. M.L. had worked as a beautician at a parlor in the emirate. He had been working in the UAE for the last five years. The Filipino died on Sunday (September 4), four days after being confined at a hospital, Flores said, adding that the death certificate indicated that he “died of natural causes”. This means there is a “very slim chance” of a lawsuit being filed, Flores said, adding that the victims’ friends have already informed his parents, who said “they just want his body to be sent home to the Philippines”. The victim was from Mexico, Pampanga. Flores said that the suspected culprit, who also worked for a salon, has already left the UAE. His whereabouts is unknown.
