Filipino girl abandoned in UAE seeks help to find mother
DUBAI – An 8-year-old Filipino girl abandoned by her mother in the UAE has appealed for help to find her parent. The case of Mutya came to light after her Filipino guardian, Zuhra Unas, asked help from social group Global OFW Helpline. In a recent Facebook Live interview hosted by the group, Mutya appealed to Philippine authorities to help locate her mother. The girl currently lives with her Filipino guardian, Unas, in Ajman. Her mother, Emelyn Gumarang, reportedly left the UAE in 2018 after applying for amnesty. Unas, for her part said she plans to move back to her home in Maguindanao, Philippines after losing her job in the UAE due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, she won’t leave without Mutya, whom she treats like her own child after taking care of her since the girl was born on November 11, 2011. It is not clear who Mutya’s father is as the child was born out of wedlock. Unas said she is willing to adopt Mutya and hopes they will be repatriated soon as she is struggling to pay overdue house rent.
