Updated on December 28, 2024 In a tragic incident that has shocked Kuwait, a Filipino housemaid has confessed to killing an 18-month-old Kuwaiti boy by placing him inside a washing machine. Authorities say the crime occurred at the family’s Sabah Al Salem residence, where the maid acted in a moment of frustration. “He was disturbing me, so I put him in the washing machine,” she reportedly told investigators. The housemaid reportedly switched on the washing machine after putting the boy inside. The parents of the child heard his cries and rushed to his aid. The child was taken to Jaber Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries despite medical intervention. On Saturday (December 28),the Philippine Embassy extended its "heartfelt condolences and prayers to the bereaved family". “The Philippine Embassy in Kuwait is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic incident of a Filipino domestic worker involved in the death of a Kuwaiti child in her employer’s household,” the embassy said in a statement. The housemaid has been taken into custody, and a full investigation is underway. Kuwaiti authorities are examining the circumstances of the incident and reviewing the household’s environment for potential contributing factors. The Philippine Embassy said it is cooperating with Kuwaiti authorities, and also assisting the detained Filipino. “This isolated incident does not reflect the character of Filipinos and the Filipino community in Kuwait, who are recognized for their hard work, reliability, and positive contribution to society,” according to the Philippine Embassy. The incident has sparked widespread grief and outrage in Kuwait. Many have taken to social media to express condolences to the family, with calls for stricter regulations on hiring domestic workers.
