Filipino human beatboxer in UAE wins OFW Got Talent

  DUBAI – Human beatboxer Jonar Makiling won the OFW Got Talent UAE on Saturday (March 5), wowing the audience with his unique vocals. Using nothing but his own voice, Makiling went a step further from his previous performance by vocalizing nine sounds to create one incredible dance music. With his unique beatboxing sound, Makiling bested 16 other contestants to win the OFW Got Talent at Pakistan Auditorium in Dubai. He scored 90.85 in the judges’ tally. He was in tears as he accepted his trophy and token cheque while his supporters cheered on. Speaking to Expatmedia.net after being hailed the champion, an elated Makiling said his win was “unexpected”. “I really prepared hard for this competition,” the Dubai-based Filipino said. He is taking home P150,000 (Dh10,700), plus gifts from UAE Kabayan Souq, Swatch, LBC and other sponsors. He will also be sent on an all-expense paid trip to California to represent Team UAE when he competes in the World Championships of Performing Arts in July. Makiling, who works as a sales merchandiser in Dubai, said he developed his unique talent of human beatboxing since he was a child. “I have been very passionate about music since I was a child, and I always played with sounds from my mouth. I’ve been doing beatboxing in the last nine years,” Makiling told Expatmedia.net in Filipino. What does he plan to do with his cash prize? “I’m going to use it to build a house. Actually, construction has already started,” the OFW Got Talent champion said with a grin. The runners-up in OFW Got Talent are Cristoff Aremat of Saudi Arabia (4th place), Kendra Cristobal (3rd place), Gemma Alontaga (2nd place) and R&R Dancers (first place).
