Filipino nurse dies of Covid-19 in Abu Dhabi

DUBAI – A Filipino nurse working in Abu Dhabi has died of Covid-19, according to the Philippine Nurses Association-UAE on Sunday (May 10). A source told Expatmedia.net that Janette Alano died on Sunday after being admitted to the hospital last week. In a post on Facebook, the Philippine Nurses Association-UAE described Alano as a hero who had “given her life to something bigger than oneself”. The group mourned Alano, saying she “made a good fight”. Tributes also poured in for the Filipina in the comment section, many praising her for her kindness and great work ethics. Hana Rodriguez called Alano a "real mom to everyone". "I remember how you walk around the area and commended the nurses on their great work they have done and even calling them angels. You will be missed mama Janette," Rodriguez commented. Another colleague, Amanda Southgate-Morris, also expressed her grief: "So, so sad.. We will miss you, habibti. It was an honor to know and to have worked with you. You had so much more to give." Speaking to Expatmedia.net, Southgate-Morris described Alano as a "good, kind, generous person". "She was much loved because she loved everyone freely," she said, adding that she is "still in shock" about the Filipina's death. Alano is believed to be the second Filipino frontliner to die of Covid-19 in the UAE, after nurse Marlon Jimenea, 44, died due to complications of coronavirus on April 28. Jimenea, who was assigned at the intensive care unit of a hospital in Sharjah, had worked in the UAE for eight years. He died several weeks after contracting coronavirus, colleagues said. https://www.expatmedia.net/filipino-nurse-uae-dies-covid-19/2020/04/ As of Friday, a total of 28 Filipinos have died of Covid-19 in the UAE, according to consulate officials.
