Filipino nurse in UAE dies of Covid-19

  DUBAI – A Filipino nurse based in the UAE has died of Covid-19, according to a report on Tuesday (April 28). Marlon Jimenea, 44, died on Sunday after being admitted to the hospital on April 5, according to TV network ABS-CBN. Jimenea, who worked in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Sharjah, is believed to be the first Filipino frontliner to die of Covid-19 in the UAE. The Filipino from Iloilo city in the Philipppines had worked in the UAE for eight years. He died due to complications from coronavirus, ABS-CBN quoted his nurse, Misyl Jovero, as saying. Jovero said that Jimenea received the best treatment and therapy that the hospital can offer but that he suffered from multiple organ failure. Jovero told ABS-CBN that Jimenea was one of the pioneer Filipino nurses in the hospital and that many had looked up to him like an older brother. Jovero described Jimenea as a helpful and hardworking nurse, adding that days before his death, Jimenea had expressed worry for his wife, who is also a nurse in the UAE, and their 6-year-old daughter. Colleagues mourned Jimenea, and a group of Filipino nurses in the UAE are reportedly raising funds to help the family he left behind. His body is set to be cremated.
