A Middle East-based Filipino overseas worker (OFW) hit the jackpot during a vacation in the Philippines, winning P37.4 million (Dh2.3 million) in the Super Lotto 6/49 on October 20. The win not only changed his life but also honored a cherished family tradition. The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) shared the remarkable story behind the win. The OFW, whose identity remains confidential, revealed that the winning combination – 20, 32, 29, 31, 01, 22 – was a set of numbers his father had faithfully played for years. When his father’s health declined, the OFW took it upon himself to continue purchasing lotto tickets using those numbers. “My father always believed these numbers would bring us fortune,” the winner told PCSO officials. “It was his unwavering faith that made this blessing possible.” The life-changing moment occurred while the OFW was home for a holiday. He purchased the ticket on a whim, hoping to keep the family tradition alive. When the winning numbers were announced, he was overcome with joy and gratitude, describing the win as “bittersweet” because it honored his father’s legacy. After recently claiming his prize at the PCSO head office in Mandaluyong City, the OFW made a significant decision. He postponed his return to the Middle East to manage his newfound wealth and plan his family’s future. Despite the financial windfall, he expressed a commitment to fulfilling his professional obligations by formally resigning from his job overseas. ICA/Expat Media
