Filipino seafarer killed, 2 hurt in vessel fire off Fujairah coast

  FUJAIRAH - A Filipino seafarer was killed after an explosion and fire on a towing vessel off the coast of Fujairah, an official said. Philippine Labour Attache Felicitas Bay said the towing boat was carrying six Filipinos and two Indians when it caught fire off the port of Fujairah on Friday. It was enroute to India from Ajman. Bay said that the incident on Friday also left two other crew members injured, including a Filipino man and an Indian man. The Indian crew member is reportedly in criticial condition, while the Filipino is recovering from minor burns. The crew reportedly heard an explosion before fire erupted on the vessel. The incident is still under police investigation. Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased Filipino are currently kept at the Fujairah Hospital morgue, Labour Attache Bay said. No details about the victim's identity were revealed. The Philippine official said that the victim's family will receive 200,000 pesos (Dh14,800) as well as 20,000 pesos for funeral assistance.
