Filipino TikTok stars in UAE hit 1.4 million views for Bangkota videos

DUBAI – Filipino influencers in the UAE have raked in a total of 1.4 million views for their TikTok videos promoting the Philippine Pavilion, Bangkota, at Expo 2020 Dubai. The “TikTok Champions” in the UAE were recently awarded for their contribution in promoting the Philippine participation at Expo 2020. “Every Filipino in all four corners of the world is Bangkota. We, and not the Bangkota pavilion, are our sustainable gifts to the world,” Bobbie Carella, President of Philippine Business Council-Dubai and Northern Emirates (PBC-DNE), said at the awarding ceremony in Dubai. Certificates of appreciation were given to TikTok stars @iantotherescue, @briadventurez, @chokiegrey, @realtalkdarbs @itsdaniel.dels, @hadjie_black, @jc.taysor, @ohjhonryl, @kaitorreflores_official, @kimifierce @kojibuenafepalmes,, @kuyajulz_exit, @markus.engr, @itsmeprinceless, @paps_rey and @unicohijo24. Philippine Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes called it “genius” to tap the Filipino TikTok community in the UAE in spreading awareness of the Philippine pavilion at Expo 2020. “Let’s face it, is not my generation,” the 54-year-old Cortes said, grinning. “I thought it was genius for the Philippine Business Council to… reach out to an avenue to make sure the youth are informed,” he added. He urged the Filipino community in the UAE to continue to be “engaged”. “It’s very important to keep that interaction alive and kicking,” he said. The Philippine pavilion, called Bangkóta after the coral reef, sits in Sustainability District of the Expo 2020 site. It features the artworks of modern Filipino artists, authentic Filipino food in the Mangrove restaurant and artisanal Filipino products in the gift shop, Go Lokal. The Bangkóta is the biggest Expo pavilion the Philippines has ever showcased, with a total area of 3,163sqm. ICA/Expat Media
