The remains of 20 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Kuwait arrived in the Philippines on Wednesday (April 15), according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). Authorities said the workers died from various illnesses. Officials from the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) were present to assist grieving families upon arrival. Undersecretaries Felicitas Bay and Dominique Rubia-Tutay, along with other officials, extended condolences to the families. A pastor and a priest also led a blessing for the remains before the remains were released to relatives. Families of the deceased appealed for privacy as they mourn their loved ones.

Hundreds of OFWs also repatriated

On the same day, hundreds of Filipinos were safely repatriated from different parts of the Middle East. A total of 328 OFWs and their families from Kuwait arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Wednesday morning via a Kuwait Airways flight. They were welcomed by representatives from the Department of Migrant Workers and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, who facilitated immediate assistance. Another batch of 35 Filipinos, including workers and their families from Dubai and Lebanon, also arrived at the same airport earlier that morning. The group included 21 OFWs and three family members from Dubai, as well as 11 OFWs from Lebanon. Authorities said the returning Filipinos received financial aid, medical assessments, and other forms of support, in line with directives from Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ensure the welfare of nationals affected by tensions in the Middle East. Officials continue to monitor the situation and coordinate further assistance for Filipinos overseas who may need repatriation.
