Philippine Independence Day celebration in Dubai: All you need to know

  DUBAI – In true Philippine fashion, Filipino expatriate leaders in the UAE have prepared a fun-filled, activity-packed Philippine Independence Day celebration in Dubai in May. Eighty UAE-based Filipino organisations led by the FilClub and in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and Northern Emirates have teamed together for Kalayaan 2017, the Philippine Independence Day celebration for Filipino expatriates in the UAE, said Engineer Tata Dayot, FilClub chairman. “I am happy that a lot of groups, including schools, have shown enthusiasm in participating in this year’s celebration,” Dayot told Expatmedia.net. The Philippines celebrates its 119th Independence Day on June 12, but in the UAE, Filipinos will celebrate it on May 12 at Zabeel Hall 1 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, with gates open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.. Entrance is free. This year’s celebration includes two new entertainment events, roping in 20 of the best music groups in Battle of the Bands and some of the best Filipino hair stylists and models who will make it to the final cut of the Pinoy Hairstyle Competition. The day-long event will also include cultural presentations from various expatriate groups and schools, a beauty contest called Mr & Ms Teen PID, OPM Singing Competition and an on-the-spot painting contest, said Erickson Reyes, Vice Chairman of FilClub. “Bring your family and friends because we have prepared an enjoyable program for you,” Reyes said, adding that a Filipino celebrity will be one of the special guests.
