Filipinos in the UAE will no longer have to wait in queues to cast their vote as they can now be able to vote online for the Philippines' upcoming 2025 elections, as announced on Wednesday (October 23). The Philippine Consulate-General in Dubai shared Comelec's guidelines on Wednesday for the new online voting system. For the first time, Filipino voters abroad can cast their votes online using a mobile phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop on any web browser. If there are any issues, voters can still cast their ballots in person at the embassy in Abu Dhabi or the consulate-general in Dubai, where OVCS kiosks will be available. The official election day is May 12, 2025, but Filipinos abroad, including those in the UAE, can participate in overseas absentee voting from April 13 to May 12, 2025. During the elections, the Philippines will elect 12 senators, members of the House of Representatives, and thousands of local officials. However, overseas votes will only be able to cast their ballots for senators and party-list representatives. To use the new Online Voting and Counting System (OVCS), eligible voters have to sign up first. Pre-enrolment on the Comelec's voting portal begins on February 27, 2025. FLE/Expat Media
