Filipinos in UAE get free McDonald’s meals during Covid-19 pandemic

DUBAI – Filipinos in the UAE have started receiving vouchers for a free McDonald’s meal that they can enjoy during the Covid-19 pandemic. The initiative is part of the 10 Million Meals Project of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in partnership with Food Bank UAE. “The goal is to provide aid and support to people in need during this difficult time,” Christopher Mares, a Regulatory Affairs Supervisor tasked by Dubai Municipality to oversee the voucher distribution, told Expatmedia.net. Mares tapped UAE-based groups, including the Filipino Social Club, to help distribute the vouchers to Filipinos in the country. “It is definitely an honor to be a part of this project. I have been receiving a lot of messages from our kababayans telling me about their situation and how this project would really help them. Some even sent me pictures and videos of them enjoying their meals. It is such a heartwarming experience to know that I was able to help to our fellow kababayans. I am beyond grateful that Food Bank UAE chose to help the Filipino community,” Mares said. Ericson Reyes, President of the Filipino Social Club, said distribution for a total of 5,500 vouchers is underway in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. “I thank Food Bank UAE, the 10 Million Meals Project and of course our volunteers who have gone out of their way to make sure these vouchers reach the people who need them most,” Reyes told Expatmedia.net. Reyes said that his organization has gotten more than 7,000 requests so far. “We are trying our best to help everyone. While we still have something to give, we will not stop helping,” Reyes said.
